We are delighted to announce the appointment of Ben Lawrence as the new Head Coach for our Boys’ Section (U14-U18).
Ben brings bags of experience to the role having played 10 seasons in the England National Hockey Leagues during which time he lifted the Premier League title with Canterbury, reached the promotion playoffs with Hounslow and captained his Holcombe side up into the National League. He also represented England at U18 and U21 levels, as well as being selected for all of the Kent age group teams from the age of 13!
Having volunteered at the club for a number of years working with our younger girls’ age groups (with his daughter Ella currently playing in our U11’s group), Ben is already a very familiar face at Wayfarers. His impressive hockey resume speaks for itself, but Ben also looks forward to sharing elements of his wellness and personal training business with our junior members.
Commenting on the appointment, Director of Hockey, Mark Atherton noted
“Ben has been a tremendous addition to our coaching staff and has already helped guide some of our younger players, including most recently to the London In2Hockey Finals competition at Lee Valley. His knowledge of the game, attention to detail and broader insight into what it takes to become a performance hockey player, will be of enormous benefit to our junior boys. We are thrilled that he has taken on this key coaching role at the club and look forward to supporting him in developing players at this key stage in their hockey journey.”
Ben says:
“I am really looking forward to taking on this role as Head Coach for our older boys’ age groups, to working with the players and supporting those wishing to gain early exposure to senior men’s hockey.
Having been part of the Wayfarers’ coaching family for the past 5 years, I’ve always loved the atmosphere and culture we’ve created across the Junior section. This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the future of the club for years to come and for me to share lessons learned along my own development pathway.”
