As a club we continue to grow and this year is no different! A new season means the introduction of new teams.
The Junior section of London Wayfarers Hockey Club has gone from strength to strength and we are now closing in on offering hockey for all age groups with the introduction of our first Boys U16 and Girls U18 teams. We have also welcomed our 500th junior Wayfarer this summer and we are on course to end up with close to 550 junior members as we approach the new season.
In the Senior section we are adding a 10th ladies team! This one is rather special, officially our first named ladies team, the Trailblazers, are our brand new Academy team which will offer junior girls the opportunity to play senior hockey in a Surrey Ladies Hockey League Friendly Division. Teams in this division will play fewer matches throughout the season and are not part of the regular league structure therefore no promotion / relegation rules apply. A perfect environment for the girls to be playing with more experienced players, some of whom are returning to hockey after some time off, including two of our Honorary Life Members, Stephanie Black and Angela Durnin. The Trailblazers are captained by former Club Secretary Sarah Kenny who will also be coaching the Girls U16s in 2017-18.
This will bring our total to 19 senior teams playing in Saturday leagues plus summer hockey and mixed teams but that is not all…
Back to Hockey
We can also confirm that London Wayfarers Hockey Club will be introducing a Back to Hockey programme starting late September. This will hopefully encourage those who are keen to pick up a hockey stick (again) to (re-)join the London Wayfarers family. These sessions will be coached by Liz Basson and are held at Crystal Palace. For more information contact our membership administrator or keep checking our website as the Back to Hockey pages are launched later this month.
As one of the biggest clubs in the country we can hopefully accommodate even more hockey enthusiasts with this expanded offering.
